Chinchillas eat only a smaller amount of food and it needs a little amount of water. The good nutritional food and clean water need to be supplied to your pet. The chinchillas in the wild eat the dessert grasses. Dessert grasses are not rich in protein. To equalize the nutrition they eat dried hay. Chinchillas eat hay and pellets. It also need more water. Treats has to be given to your pet occasionally. Food items with lots of sugar and fat content is not good for your chinchillas. It generally remains healthy. It eat food with proper nutritional balanced. It takes natural diet like eating roots, plants, and grasses. It is an herbivores animal. The digestive system of the chinchilla is very sensitive. Therefore, it cannot have feed with oil, fat, and sugar contents food. Do not give too many treats to your pet. It may cause several health problems. It also may cause pre-matured death in your chinchillas.
Treats for your Chinchillas
There are some of the foods of chinchillas that are considered as a safest one. Some are listed below.
Mountain Ash Berries
These are the food with more anti-oxidants. You can feed to your pet to two to three times a day. It is very good and safe for your pet.
The digestive part of the chinchilla is very sensitive. Therefore, the dried herbs in a smaller amount are good for your pet.
Fruit Tree Twigs
Daily a tree will provide a new twig. It is good for your pet. Do not give a twig from the plum or cherry tree.
- Dried Rose Hips
A rose hip is good in fiber. Therefore, you can give your pet daily one rose hip. It supports and makes chinchillas incisors strong.
Vitamin A is high in marshmallow roots. It also contains vitamin B and thiamine. Give a small amount of root for 1 to 2 weeks.
Chinchillas will not react with all types of foods. So give them a different food. However, do not try to replace other food instead of hay and pellets.
Nuts and Greens
The sunflower seed is suggested for the chinchillas. Do not give too much of fat, oil and sugar content foods to chinchillas.
It is high in carbohydrates and phosphorous. You can give your pet 2 to 3 times in week. Only small amount have to be given to your pet.
Chins will not like the taste of burnt toast. Also, it is a healthy and safest food for your chins.
The food with high sugar, oil and fat contents are not to be given to the chinchillas.
Acid and Watery foods
Chinchillas are not able to have high acidity. Therefore, the acid fruits like lemon, grapes, and tomato should not feed to your pet. Watery fruits will result in diahhrea for the chins.
Corn and chocolate
Corn has to be avoided. It may have fungus. The fat and sugar content in the chocolate is high so it causes the nervous and digestive system to get damaged.
Some of the foods are unsafe to the chinchillas. Some causes lungs and nervous system disorders. Some severe issues may even result in the death of the chins. So give a proper food. The clean filtered water is also very important for the chins.
